Christmas is the season of oddly timed by-elections, and for the 3rd week in a row I’ll start my final weekly report of the year with an early poll result.
On Wednesday the Conservatives held their Cranleigh West on Waverley BC whilst the Liberal Democrat candidate Richard Cole took 29.1% of the vote down fractionally (-1 point).

The main news of the week came yesterday in Eastleigh where the Liberal Democrats were defending the Hedge End Wildern seat on the Borough Council.
Congratulations to Ian Corben and team who not only held the seat but took 64.5% of the vote as they not only swept up the previous Independent’s vote but also took from Conservatives and Labour. Their vote share drops would have been more severe as I presume the UKIP vote would have gone to those 2 parties not us (although I am speculating)

In Aylesham (Dover DC) Labour were defending in a straight fight with the Conservatives, as there was no Liberal Democrat candidate, and they held the seat comfortably.

In Town and Parish Council news the Liberal Democrats were defending a seat on Hedge End Town Council.
Congratulations to Cliff Morris who did a great job defending and held the Wildern seat.

Full details of last nights By-Election results can be found on the ALDC’s By-Election Results page and details of that is coming next on ourForthcoming Elections page. Hat Tip to Britain Elects for their results too.

Well done to all who stood last night regardless of the result. It is really important that we stand candidates in all by-elections in order to build the habit of voting Liberal Democrat. If there is no candidate of ours on the ballot paper we are depriving someone of their ability to vote for us. If you are interested in standing as a candidate please get in touch with your Local Party or ALDC.
