This week there are 3 principal council by-elections to report on with the Liberal Democrats standing candidates in 2 of the 3.

In Westexe (Mid Devon DC) David Whiteway took 18.8% of the vote for the Liberal Democrats. This was a very strong result having not standing a candidate in 2015 despite standing prior to that. UKIP didn’t stand a candidate and so lost the seat to the Conservatives.

In Bucklow St Martin’s (Trafford MB) Simon Lepori stood for the Liberal Democrats and gained a vote share of 1.8% while Labour held their seat.

In Lyme Regis & Charmouth (West Dorset DC) the Liberal Democrats did not stand a candidate despite coming 3rd & 5th in a 2 seat ward last time it was fought in 2015. An Independent gained the seat for the Conservatives.

Sadly there was no Loberal Democrat gain to send you all off to Autumn Conference in Bournemouth with a spring in your step but I hope you all have a great time!

Full details of last nights By-Election results can be found on the ALDC’s By-Election Results page and details of that is coming next on our Forthcoming Elections page. Hat Tip to Britain Elects for their results too.

Well done to all who stood last night regardless of the result. It is really important that we stand candidates in all by-elections in order to build the habit of voting Liberal Democrat. If there is no candidate of ours on the ballot paper we are depriving someone of their ability to vote for us. If you are interested in standing as a candidate please get in touch with your Local Party or ALDC.
