This week there were 5 Principal Council By-Elections, and for the 1st time in a few weeks the Liberal Democrats had a full house of candidates. It was also a 2nd week of good news for the Liberal Democrats with another Council seat gained.

Congratulations to Jim Forrest in Stubbington (Fareham BC) who gained the seat for the Liberal Democrats from UKIP. Jim and team increased the Liberal Democrats vote share by 32.4 points up to 55.2%. A great result to follow up on last weeks triple gain.

In Gospel Oak (Camden LB) Jill Fraser took 25.7% of the vote for the Liberal Democrats an increase of 18.7 points while Labour held their seat.

In Limestone Peak (High Peak BC) Alistair Forbes took 11.9% of the vote for the Liberal Democrats in a seat not contested by the party last time while the Conservatives held their seat.

In Thamesfield (Wandsworth LBC) Ryan Mercer took 15.9% of the vote for the Liberal Democrats, an increase of 5.3 points while the Conservatives held the seat.

In Buckley Bistre West (Flintshire CC) Gren James took 11.5% of the vote, a disappointing decrease in vote share of 23 points while Labour held their seat and 2 Independents took 2nd and 3rd places.

Full details of last nights By-Election results can be found on the ALDC’s By-Election Results page and details of that is coming next on our Forthcoming Elections page. Hat Tip to Britain Elects for their results too.

Well done to all who stood last night regardless of the result. It is really important that we stand candidates in all by-elections in order to build the habit of voting Liberal Democrat. If there is no candidate of ours on the ballot paper we are depriving someone of their ability to vote for us. If you are interested in standing as a candidate please get in touch with your Local Party or ALDC.
